Burton Family Maitland Toyota first opened in December 1963 trading as Sharton Motors. It was a Golden Fleece Petrol Station, with a small car yard and service workshop with a total staff of four. Norm and Maureen Burton were the principals in the business, and are still in that role today, some 40 years later.

In 1970 Norm and Maureen purchased 250 High St Maitland, which was refurbished as a new car showroom and a service workshop facility, operating with a staff of nine.

In 1977 Sharton Motors became incorporated, and started to trade as “Maitland Toyota”.

Continued reinvestment over the years, and a change in the motor industry standard, saw the New and Used car division relocate to the old site at 104 Newcastle Road East Maitland, with open air display, but the Parts and Service departments remained in High St Maitland.

The dealership operated out of two sites for some 20 years until 2002, when Norm and Maureen made a major investment and built a multi-million dollar facility to combine all divisions on one site. Maitland Toyota now occupies 104 – 124 Newcastle Road East Maitland, and operate with 42 local staff.

In 2002 and 2003 Maitland Toyota were the “Rural NSW Sales Excellence” award winners and in 2003 Maitland Toyota were awarded with the “No1 Australian Parts and Accessories Gold Excellence” award.

Maitland Toyota is committed to our customer's satisfaction in all of our dealership areas and has a current rating of 97% CSI. Norm and Maureen are looking at future expansions of Maitland Toyota with hope of being able to offer other Toyota brand makes and models.
